All About Books

Belly Bytes post on All About Books inspired me to take this up. Also I had to write a post for today and I couldn’t think of a topic I wanted to write on and this came at the right time. Universe does come to the rescue when you’re desperate enough.

Now to the questions:

1. Do you have a specific place for reading? Not at all! I will read anywhere-any time: in-between the two minutes it takes the water for tea to boil to carrying it with me to the loo.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper? BOTH. I am also known to use clothes-tag, phone, comb (after ensuring it is not oily), threads, wire…anything that I can find.

3. Do you eat or drink whilst reading? The act of reading and eating are sacred to me. So I don’t mix them. Also I’m worried about stains, whether it’s a physical book or the back of my Kindle.

4. Music or TV whilst reading? I mute the TV when it’s on a break and read like a paragraph or page until the movie comes back. But I do this only if the movie is interesting enough and I am re-reading a book. Music – no. I will feel bad for not listening to the music and I can’t listen when I read.

5. One book at a time or several? I have tried to read several but I just can’t / don’t like to multitask that way. I’m a one book woman.

6. Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere? No preference as such. I can mostly read anywhere. If it’s too noisy, it’ll take me five-ten minutes to let it all blend to white noise.

7. Read out loud or silently? Silently of course. Unless I don’t understand something. Then reading out loud helps.

8. Do you read ahead or skip pages? I used to start by reading the last page of a book. I stopped when I realized it spoilt the story. I only skip pages when the narrative becomes boring and I have to finish the book for the sake of finishing or to know how it ends.

9.  Break the spine or keep it like new? I would love to keep it like new but for fat books, it becomes really difficult. Since joining a library, I have come to appreciate a broken spine of a book. It means it is a well-loved and well-read book.

10. Do you write in books? That is blasphemous! Which is the only reason I love Kindle over a physical book. While reading a book, I wanted to highlight a few texts so I bought it on Kindle and highlighted the text while reading the physical book.

11. What books are you reading now? I just finished reading Stephen King’s It. Now I am contemplating between Dan Brown’s Origin and Mark Lawrence’s Empire of Thorns. I may go through my staggering TBR to find ‘the one.’

12. What is your childhood favourite book? Famous Five series by Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene and The Hardy Boys series by Franklin Dixon.

13. What is your all-time favourite book? See this is a wrong question. First because it says book – singular not plural. And second, I will need a whole other post to list all. So I’ll try to make a short list: Harry Potter by JK Rowling, Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb, And then there were none by Agatha Christie, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon…I could go on but I will stop.

  1. I can read anytime and anywhere too. Sometimes I use my phone to mark where I’ve stopped reading. πŸ˜‚ I’m worried about stains but I do read while eating! I’m a many book woman. I can read anywhere too. Once I open my book/Kindle, it’s like I’ve entered an alternate universe. πŸ˜‚ My friends and roommates often accuse me of tuning out occasionally. I read silently too. Harry Potter is one of my favorites too.
