That time of the year – people are making resolutions, some have broken them already, some are rallying around the idea, some are talking about pending resolutions from 2015 like it is a TBR…on a side note have you noticed it never goes beyond 2015? No one has said my resolutions from 2003 are still pending. Maybe it’s just the power of memory that prevents us from remembering such uncomfortable and unhelpful truths.
My point is there are enough memes and jokes and opinions on the matter and this post is not going to be on why you should or should not make resolutions. But this post is going to be about intentions – in case the title didn’t give it away – sorry spoiler alert.
A chance conversation with a friend in the beginning of December made me realize though I did not make any resolutions for 2018, I had started it with an intention. It made me realize that the whole of 2018 had been subconsciously dedicated to that intention, written but forgotten in an obscure word document.
That is when it dawned on me – the power of intention. It was a word I had seen floating around. I knew how it worked, I had seen it work, I had used it to make things work for me. But to put an intention in the beginning of the year and see it unfold the way it did was something I experienced for the first time in 2018.
Seeing as how it made an impact on and in 2018, I have already put down my intentions in another obscure word document for 2019. While I was lucky enough to be reminded of the 2018 intention intermittently, for the new year, the intention is a little more concrete, with more action points, a few photos and fun activities ably aided along by this year workbook.
I have never been a goals person. While it may motivate some people, it only scares the living bejesus out of me. And don’t even get me started on five-year plannings – I do not understand them, I do not make them. But intention…now this is something I find mightily exciting.
So instead of the usual, let me ask you – what is your intention for 2019?
Such a satisfying post to end the year on. Happy Holidays everyone!
