It begins with a glorious dream. Untainted by truth, undaunted by reality…pure, innocent, attainable.
A chip comes off when you begin the journey and realize its harder than it seemed.
Another chip comes off as you go deeper only to come up against an insurmountable wall.
You mount the wall but the chips fall faster as the dream can no longer keep up with the demands of reality.
But you soldier on…nursing a tainted dream because it is still what you want. And the hope, though dimmed, shines brightly.
You keep flipping in and out…sometimes euphoric, sometimes so deep in anguish, you are confident this time it’ll break your back.
At one point you realize the futility of the oscillation because achieving this dream was all that you wanted.
But the dream is relentless – and so is reality – as it buffets you this way and that…at once uplifting, at once despairing.
And though in some way the breaking of the illusion, the tarnishing of the dream sets you free from your own expectations, giving you the gift of what you want without the glory that you had wished to achieve…you are left to wonder: is this what it is to dream a dream?
