7 things that make life magical

I was having a hard time coming up with fun and humorous topics to write on so I went to my trusty ChatGPT and asked it to give me some options. The first batch was so boring I had to share feedback and the second batch was better. Today’s topic is from that second batch of topics that the AI generated for me. There was another topic on how to enjoy procrastination but I laughed at the thought so much that I ended up procrastinating prioritizing the topic.

Anywho. After that witty repartee, let me tell you about the 7 things that make my life magical, not to be confused with the 12 instant pick-me-ups blog post I wrote last year for the marathon.

#1: Hot shower

I know, I know I live in Bombay and it is hot for at least 10 of the 12 months and you don’t really need hot water for your shower. BUT the luxury of a hot shower just ensures you have a good start to your day. It’s great for the shoulder pain you get when you wake up in the morning and realize you didn’t position your body right. It’s great for hunger induced headaches. Not to forget, it’s BRILLIANT for the backpains that seem to have taken permanent residence in my lower back thanks to my atrocious posture.

#2: A good combination of shampoo and conditioner

I have weird hair. They’re oily but also dry. They need to be shampooed every alternate day or else I’ll turn into a scalp-itching monkey. There was a time when I would give into the gently aggressive selling tactics of my salon person and buy those god awfully expensive Kerastase shampoos. I then shifted to the one that had hyaluronic acid because it was too much fun to try and pronounce that word right.

I have finally found the perfect conditioner that makes my hair so shiny and smooth that I keep playing with them.

#3: Lipsticks

I am obsessed. Every time I see lipsticks on discount I will add 4-5 to my cart. I don’t always order them, sometimes I just like to see a full cart. But sometimes, when I give into the impulse and order 3 lipsticks, 2 of which are the same shade and 1 of which I already have, my sister will look at me with horror. Its like she has a trademark on making poor purchase choices and I need to be the sensible one? Pfft.

#4: Kindle

Yes, yes, this list will obviously have the Kindle in it too. I mean, this device has singlehandedly saved me and my reading in the past 5-6 years. If I ever create an altar, my Kindle will be placed front and centre. I carry it with me everywhere and even when running from a burning building, I would probably forget my phone, but not my Kindle.

#5: Artist interviews

I love listening to people talk about their art. They speak about the nuts and bolts – the tools you need to work your art. They talk about training and learning and growing of course. And in the middle of all these technical outpourings, they will also talk about the amorphous nature of art: the depths it comes from. How it allows you to say, to include and to live.

#6: Food glorious food

Only last month I waxed poetic on my love for food and how the food I have eaten over the years has shaped my life. I just need some tasty food in front of me. I very rarely care what it is. I will mostly enjoy myself. My love of food is right there, next to my love for my Kindle.

Remember that altar I was making for Kindle? Well, the prasad I’d make for it…yummy, yummy.

#7: Trees

I love trees and I love having them in the stories I write. I love collecting pictures of trees – whether I’m travelling or from Pinterest. Driving through Aarey is my favourite thing. Seeing the tangled webs of branches and leaves and nature are a soothing reminder that all things live and die.

7 things that make life magical
Something I wrote a while back on trees.

Well, this turned out to be quite the fun post to write! If you have enjoyed it, then tell me 1 thing that makes your life magical.

  2. I love watching interviews too; of any kind of artists, actors, writers, dancers, et al. Also, I feel good shampoo and conditioning is so underrated. Like the whole day goes haywire for me if my hair isn’t behaving 🫣
