A love letter to my parents

I wish I was a painter
So I could paint you a beautiful picture
I wish I was a song-writer
To write you lyrics that would make you cry

I wish I were a singer
To belt out your favourite tunes
I wish I was a poet
To write you a poem that would touch your heart

I wish I was a dancer
To make you dance to my rhythm.
I wish I had the words that tell you
How much I love and respect you

I wish I had a talent
Something…anything
That could work as a gift
To celebrate this joyous day

That would live up to the 31 years
That you have spent together
But I’m a mere girl
With not too many skills
Who just wants to make her mom and dad proud.

I may not have the words
I may not have the grace
But I do have a prayer…

I hope you have another 25, 50, 100 years of togetherness
May the sun always shine on you
May the gods always smile on you
May you find comfort
In each other’s embrace
May you have all the riches in this world
Especially those of happiness, good health and prosperity.

Though my parents’ anniversary is a week away, no one said celebrations cannot begin early!
