The pointless fight

PHOTO PROMPT © Russell Gayer

The contrast between the brown and the green was stark – like nature had drawn an invisible line separating the two.

While defection was prohibited, some green could be seen on the brown and some brown could be seen growing like weed on the green. But neither could halt the encroachment.

Only the sign post, standing sentry to the peace treaty knew that one couldn’t survive without the other. Only it knew that life and death were parts of each other, forever enclosed in this uncomfortable embrace, never to be parted, never to meet, forever doomed to fear the other.

Written as part of the Friday Fictioneers hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. The idea is to write a 100-word story on a photo prompt. You can read the other stories here.

  1. Beautifully done, Suchita. It serves no purpose to separate, there will always be one trying to get to the other.

  4. Dear Suchita,

When you come right down to it it seems that most fighting is pointless, doesn’t it?

    1. You’re absolutely right. Even internal fights are often an inability or refusal to face the music. Thank you for reading.
