5 things I do not understand about work culture

If there is one thing you will most certainly hear about me it is that I have a lot of patience. Ask anyone and they will tell you how good I am and how patiently I have explained things. What they don’t know is the amount of tables I have turned, and the amount of gaalis I have let loose into the air before sitting down and patiently answering said questions.

In my defense, I have found gaalis and writing and deleting emails cathartic and healing. Its my way of staying calm and not allowing my frustration to jeopardize my communication. But I do often wish I wouldn’t have to be patient so much. Why? Read on!

  • Emails – the bane of my existence

Everyone wants to put things down on email but no one – NOT ONE – person wants to make the effort of reading SAID emails. Do you know how much time and effort and bullet points and bold and highlights I take to write that email?

  • Con calls

I think the only person who pays attention on a con call is the one who has been charged with making the MOM. The rest are too busy trying to set up the connection, saying hello about a hundred different times, and pleading could you repeat that your voice cracked at the exact moment, till they die.

  • Agency people and Clients

What is with these people and telling everyone to do their work but when it comes to them, they just…forget? Also why do they think its okay to demand work at 11 PM?

  • Brainstorming out of the box ideas to keep up the illusion of your pro-activeness

If there are 2 words I hate more than straight from the heart and pour your heart on a blank page, it is out of the box and proactive. I don’t think anyone even understands what out of the box means anymore. And don’t even get me started on you should be more proactive. From someone who will not move her ass till it is on fire, how about no?

  • People

Just – why? Why do people send a ‘hello’ and then don’t revert when you send a hello back? Why do people give generic excuses to justify unprofessional behaviour? From where do they get their sense of entitlement? Why do people people so much? And then they complain – loudly – how you are the problem. Just…why?

So what are some of the things you don’t understand about the work culture?

  1. Very relatable and true to the core. What I don’t like is the whole corporate culture of fake promises and false pretenses.
Delayed appraisals, off hour intrusions, jinxed leave requests … and the list is long 🤣. Keep pouring your heart out for that’s our liberation.

    1. Thanks Vibhu. Well since I work from home, my list is different. But at least I don’t have to ask someone for leaves!

  2. This is an awesome post Suchita. I could totally relate to this. Especially the flowchart of a concall. Nailed it. One of the reasons why I couldn’t keep up with a corporate career. That word proactive I have used in my appraisals and setting up KRAs a zillion times. Keep up the good work.
