The cat and the fool

There lived a cat called Curious
Who loved to be patted, scratched and rubbed
But she found she couldnโ€™t quite get it right
So decided to hire a clown.
The first looked sad, the second too colourful
The third laughed too loudโ€ฆ
โ€ฆletโ€™s not talk about the fourth!

Giving up the pursuit
She started looking for a dog…
To her chagrin she soon found out
A dog would rather be scratched than scratch
And thus began their quarrel
Where they became mortal enemies from now and forever and ever.

Curious was desperate for her itch was now unbearable
Was there no fool in this world
Who could satisfy her itch?

BOOM clanged the cloud
THUMP screamed the earth
WHOOSH-WHOOSH whooshed the breeze
As someone up above heard Curiousโ€™ plea.

Then came the swaggering fool
Who turned into mush seeing Curiousโ€™ cute tush.
Down he went on his knees
And scratched and scratched and scratchedโ€ฆ
An involuntary purr left Curious that delighted the fool
And the cat was satisfied
For she had found the perfect fool to satisfy her itch.

The gods called him โ€œhumanโ€
The lord and master of all beings
But the cat knew betterโ€ฆ
The human may be lord and master
But myths would be sung about Curious
For it was Curious the cat
Who brought down godโ€™s most precious creation
Onto his knees for a little scritchy-scratch-scratch!

I love cats. Yes they will let you pat and scratch as long as you do their bidding of giving a little fish and milk. Once stomach is full, she walks away to mind her own business, that is curl up and sleep.

    1. That’s why I love cats – though I have never owned one and would probably never own one. In that way I think we understand one another.

    1. Did you really think it was me who was writing the poem? Ah but no, it was the cat, lazing on my phone cover, who ordered me to write a song celebrating her prowess.
