You and I

You and I, we have a strange relationship.
You bark, I crow
You scream, I snap
You push, I pull
And the threads still stay strong.

You and I, we have a strange relationship.
You know my weaknesses
You shield my innocence
Youโ€™re my biggest protector
And my brightest champion.

And yetโ€ฆand yetโ€ฆ
You know how to hurt me
You know what cuts deep
What words soothe
Words that shatter
Wounds that no one else can inflict.

You and I, we have a strange relationship.
I see your frustrations
The helplessness that engulfs
Leaving you breathless and reeling
An island in a sea of voices.

And yetโ€ฆand yetโ€ฆ
I cannot help causing you pain
The need to lash out
A wish you werenโ€™t like this
Selfish demands that you change.

What is it about you and I
That we love so desperately
That we hurt so unforgivingly
That no matter how hard we try
We cannot seem to find a balance?

  1. I think during the challenge you’ve covered a lot of aspects about relationships. Almost all. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Can’t find a balance and can’t find a way out of it, either. That’s the thing about Toxic love. Loved this one. Y is for Yawn

Sweet and sour yet crisp and never dull. The closet relationship between a man and lady can’t be anything else than a bunch of fresh grapes.
I found the reflection very close to home, Sucheta.

  6. I have been in a similar place and one thing I realized is that I deserve better. People might call it ego or selfish or anything else, but for me its self-respect. Thanks for the poetry Suchita. Happy A2Zing ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. This reminds me of something called toxic love. Some of us are trapped in it….like forever.

    1. Toxic or maybe just realistic. Sometimes the push and pull you cannot avoid. Thanks for stopping by Anupriya.

  8. Such a realistic relationship. Poetry of flaws is better than poetry of perfection. Congratulations Suchita for your wonderful run in A to Z. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed visiting you and reading your tadka of love poems.
