Desserts and I have a love-love relationship. The reason I love buffets is the variety of desserts I get to eat in one go. I spend time figuring out what dessert will give me the most joy before putting it on my plate.
I ensure Iโm completely present for the first bite of the dessert, all my senses alert, so I donโt miss having a craving satiated.
Today I want to talk to you about my favourite desserts and where you can get them.
Ma ke haath ki kheer
I love kheer and mother is the undisputed queen of making it. There are some things she loves to eat and cook and those things just come out differently. Kheer is one of them. You may not be able to come to my house to eat the kheer, but I have the recipe here, if you wish to try.
Cheesecake from Pizza Express
My cousin bakes the most delicious cheesecake. It comes out creamy yet crumbly with a perfect bite from the bottom biscuit layer. The closest cheesecake that comes to what she can bake is Pizza Expressโs cheesecake.
Baklava from Hurrem’s Turkish Baklava & Confectionery
I discovered baklava only recently and I have become an instant fan. I tried the baklava at Hurremโs with a cup (glass?) of their Turkish tea and it was the best combination ever.

Ice cream from Baskin Robbins
Every year, I rediscover ice creams during summertime. Baskin Robbins may be a chain but it has some of the tastiest, creamiest ice creams. I love their mango, vanilla, three cheers and coffee crem. Next time you order in, call for a waffle cone too. Biting the cone with vanilla ice cream is the best combo.
Gulab Jamun from Elco
I have tried a lot of gulab jamuns and I feel Elco has by far the best ones in terms of balancing the sweetness and elaichi ratio. For added flavours, try it with vanilla ice cream.
Milk cake and kalakand from Avarya
There is no one who enjoys milk cake (not the tres leches variety but the very Indian mawa variety) than dad. To be fair, as long as its sweet, he will eat anything. But he loves milk cake and mother loves kalakand and I have picked up my love for these two from them. Most places donโt go wrong with these sweets but I do have a preference for Avarya.
Shrikhand and Rabri from Amul
Elaichi shrikhand is something I associate with my childhood. When I eat it, I am reminded of little Suchita who loved anything milk-related. Rabri is my weakness and I have literal drool any time I see it in front of me. I recently discovered Amulโs rabri and it is spectacular. Totally Suchita approved. Pair it with jalebis if you want some added sin to your dessert.
Blueberry and Red velvet cupcake from Theobroma
Though the ratio of cream to cake is not ideal, I adore the blueberry and cream cheese frosting. Theobroma makes some amazing cupcakes.
Ma ke haath ki nariyal ki barfi
If there is one dessert I fear I can overdose on, it is nariyal ki barfi. I have to restrain myself from eating only one piece. The way mother makes it, by roasting the coconut until it is a nice brown, is the only way to make it, obviously.

Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut from Cadbury
A friend of mine loves to say, you should always have chocolate in your fridge. Fruit and nut is one you will almost always find in mine. Itโs a family favourite.
If you could recommend a dessert for me to try out, what would you recommend?
