I walk past a restaurant
My feet pause as my eyes snag
On a pale-yellow 3D triangle
With a crusty base and
A soft looking cake.
Baked vanilla cheesecake
Is the bold proclamation
As I step up to the pastry fridge
Wondering if this will live up to
The memory of a perfect crumbling cheesecake.
I have been deceived before
By the promise of what could be
So, I’m nervous as I prevaricate
Between wanting to give this one a try
And not assaulting my taste buds with less than perfection.
But the pale-yellow and the crust
Are calling out to me, asking me
To take a chance on them and I
Crumble into the pressure of my sweet tooth
And order one for myself.
I am pessimistic as the plate
Is put in front of me
Since a cheesecake has no smell
I cannot use that test to adjust my expectations
As a spoon bites into that softness.
The first hit of that creamy goodness
Just before the crush of the crust
Melts into my mouth
And an embarrassing groan leaves my throat
At the magnificence of the cheesecake.
As I continue my odes to my favourite food items for #BlogchatterFoodFest, I must confess I have tried too many cheesecakes to not be cautious of how easy it is to get it wrong.
Since I no longer have access to the perfection that was a Moshes Philadelphia Cheesecake, I have found the one in Pizza Express to be the closest replica. To give you context, here’s a picture of me with a chocolate and a vanilla cheesecake. They’re both worth all the calories, moans and embarrassments.

Now over to you. What’s a dessert that you have tried many versions of, just to find that remembered flavour?
