What one year of blogging taught me about writing

Recently, I took an interview with a writer and filmmaker who compared writing to devotion – saying that any type of art is possible only when you surrender yourself to the art and let it guide you through the process.

It rang so true for me that a round up of what this one year devoted to more or less regular writing (in the form of blogging) has taught me about the art and craft of it.

It has helped me to think faster and churn out content faster. Since I am always in that zone, even if I am not actively writing, I am constantly thinking about it. Sometimes it amazes me how quickly I can finish writing a blog post!

My skills to visualize a scene have improved. Now even before I begin to write, the scene is running in my head – all I need to do is describe. it. as. perfectly. as. it. appears. in. my. head.

Now even a word can spark off a chain reaction in my head and before I know it, my blog post is complete. I rarely have to wait for last minute panic for the creativity juices to start flowing.

In my hectic work days, this blog has now become a space of solace where I can write for myself. The thought that I have created the above words for the simple joy of indulging in something I love brings with it a kind of peace that few things are able to.

I would like to thank my writing for allowing me to say the things I need to say and tell the stories I contain that I couldn’t even dream I could contain or tell. As I look back to the posts I have put out in the last one year, it amazes me nay it feels downright unreal that I had those untold stories waiting in me.

I think now I understand why the writer I interviewed spoke of writing as a journey of self discovery.

March is my one year blogiversary month! And I celebrated by penning down what I have learnt in this one year. This is the last post in the series. To read the others in the what one year of blogging taught me about, see:
